20 year old Reegan Smith jailed for knife attack in Nottingham

A 20-year-old man named Reegan Smith was sentenced to seven years and 10 months in a young offender’s institution for stabbing a 17-year-old boy twice in the back during a fight at a KFC car park in Bulwell, Nottingham.

The incident occurred on October 6th 2024, and was captured on CCTV, showing Smith attacking the teenager from behind while he was engaged in a fight with another teen.

The victim stated he no longer visits Nottingham due to the trauma from the attack, which left him feeling light and uncertain about his injuries.

Judge Steven Coupland emphasized the need for Smith to stop carrying knives and warned that continued offences would result in longer sentences.

Smith had previously been on bail for an earlier knife possession charge when police found him with a blade at a railway station.

The defendant has three prior convictions for eight offences, including causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Prosecutor Denney Lau described the attack as cowardly, noting that Smith ran away after stabbing the victim with a small knife.

Detective Constable Ben Grayson condemned Smith’s actions as violent and cowardly, highlighting the potential for more severe injuries.

Samantha Marsh, representing Smith, mentioned his mother’s supportive letter and described him as remorseful and troubled, having struggled at school.

The sentence includes four years and 10 months of custody plus an extended three-year license.
