A Darlington man has been jailed after killing a pedestrian who was crossing a road.
James Mitchell, 29, was dangerously riding an off-road dirt bike at speed down Haughton Road, Darlington on Saturday 11th February 2023.
He ploughed straight into 43 year old Steven Roberts at 66 mph, who was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of ‘blunt force head injury’.
Mitchell was also found to be over the drug drive limit for cannabis at the time of the collision.
Two weeks before he was due to stand trial he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, and was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on Friday (10 May).
Sentence: 10 years, 6 months in prison
