Darlington man jailed for 14 years for abusing woman

A man has been locked up for a considerable period of time after subjecting a woman to a barrage of physical and mental abuse.

James Wilson, 22, from Darlington, County Durham, would regularly punch and kick his victim, as well as using weapons such as a baseball bat and pyramid rings against her.

He subjected her to rape and sexual assaults as well as threatening to “shoot her dead” if she reported him. He also targeted the victim’s family and smashed the windows on her parents house.

Wilson was arrested in January 2023 and charged with a number of offences, including:

  • Rape
  • Causing grievous bodily harm with intent
  • Engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour
  • Harassment
  • Disclosing or threatening to disclose private sexual photos with intent to cause distress
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

He denied all charges but was found guilty at Teesside Crown Court and sentenced on Friday 10th May 2024.

Sentence: 14 years in prison
